In order to minimize overall utility costs
for both fuel and electric consumption, Cycle-Therm supplies
a proprietary heat sink media known as Cell Stone® ULTRA.
Cell Stone® ULTRA is manufactured of Silica-based
2300 F° refractory material.
Individual Cell Stone® ULTRA
pieces are random packed. Random packing gives the
individual Cell Stone® ULTRA pieces unrestrained
ability to move as they are heated and cooled from preheat
to reheat. This eliminates thermal shock deterioration allowing
the RTO to be brought to operating temperature, by the most
uncaring operator, as standard practice, in less than 45
minutes…from a cold start. This differs dramatically
from other manufacturers’ operating procedure that
require unit start up times of up to over 1 hour as not
to shock and destroy the heat recovery media.
Unlike the “hand placed and/or
cemented-in” heavy extruded monolith used by some
rotary and individual recovery bed RTO manufacturers, Cell
Stone® ULTRA being light weight and random
packed, can be easily removed and replaced.
Cell Stone® ULTRA offers
superior heat transfer with a minimum of flow resistance.
This typically equates to a low two-chamber RTO operating
Hp of about 0.003 KW/scfm (0.004 bhp/scfm) and 0.0042 KW/scfm
(0.0056 bhp/scfm) for 2 or more chambers including system
ductwork pressure requirements. Including shell loss, our
typical two-chamber RTO will use a maximum of 150 Btu/process
scfm in fuel. Depending upon solvent VOC mix, the system,
using Cell Stone® ULTRA, will self sustain
combustion (no fuel usage) at about %5 NFPA LEL.
